The most
popular place in Lombok island is Gili island: Gili
Trawangan, Gili Meno, Gili Air, Gili Nanggu, Gili
Sulat, Gili Kedis and Gili Sudak.
In fact, the word “Gilis” mean small islands which are
peppered with white sand and swaying palm trees, lay in the
glistening ocean just off the north west coast of this island.
For many decades, the Gilis have become center of many tourist
attentions from around the Globe for their pristine waters,
great diving, snorkeling opportunities and laid-back charm.
The Gilis are ideally presented for serious diving
enthusiasts, sun-seekers looking for the perfect beach
getaway, singles, families, and couples of all ages find
something to turn their eyes towards the Gilis. There are no
cars or motorbikes on the island, apart from walking; the main
form of transport is by horse and cart (locally known as
cidomo)
The Gilis are tiny coral islands with lack of vegetation and
rainfall. It can be much hotter than on the mainland. In other
words, there is a sunshine entire day of the year even when it
rains in Lombok. Fresh water is mostly drawn from wells,
otherwise will be shipped from the mainland. Get ready for
salty showers in the most of small hotels and home-stays, even
though the big hotels and villas provide fresh water.
The Gilis offer a good selection of restaurants, bars and
accommodations with the biggest range on Gili Trawangan.
Telephone and internet facilities are available and the entire
of normal tourist amenities as well even there are no banks or
ATM’s and only the big hotels accept credit cards.

Gili Air
It is the closest island which is inhabited by the largest
local population and quickly accessed of the three Gilis. This
island possesses a turtle hatchery and also its good for
snorkeling especially from the east and northeast beaches, the
south part of this island has some nice surf in the right
conditions. It offers a good range of simple accommodations
and restaurants, some serenade and relaxed spots. |

Gili Meno
It is the smallest and in the middle of the three, it has
lowest population and therefore it is ideal for relaxing. This
island has a salt lake, an excellent bird park and offers
small and basic accommodations for those seeking out a
peaceful place in the sun along with unpopulated beaches,
clear water and quiet walks. |

Gili Trawangan
It is the largest Island of the three and the furthest from
the mainland. This island is more known as “Party Island”,
this reputation refers to many fun parties held at different
restaurant & bars that is a misleading description of this
wonderful Island.
It also offers you a wide range of accommodation as of simple
home - stays to up-market hotels and villas with the swimming
pools. There are many selections of bars and restaurants to
suit all your tastes and preferences. This island is an ideal
place to do diving and snorkeling. |
